9. Do make sure your web site hosting is reliable. Your web site needs to be up when the search spiders come crawling, so make sure your web host is reliable. Many hosts claim to have 99.9% uptime and then don’t monitor their servers properly. If your site is not available for indexing, it won’t be added; if it was already indexed, it could be dropped. If you’re experiencing lots of downtime with your site, contact your host to complain and see what they can do to improve your service. When you share server space with lots of other sites (as most host servers do), your server performance can really fluctuate, so see if they can improve your service before making a move to another host. A reliable web host also should have a strict policy for dealing with customers who spam or otherwise have less than scrupulous business ethics. A few domains using a host’s mail server to spam, for example, can get the whole server blacklisted.
