2. Don’t SPAM. This bears repeating. Don’t SPAM the search engines. Don’t submit multiple sites with duplicate (mirrored) content, don’t use irrelevant terms just to get site ranking and traffic, don’t “hide” text and links on your pages (by making them the same color as your background, for example), don’t generate hundreds of pages with little or no real content, don’t use IP cloaking. In general, focus on creating content that is useful for your customers, not just for search engine ranking. Spam e-mail practices can be bad for your web business, too, so don’t send out unsolicited advertisements unless you know the rules. If you get caught spamming search engines, your IP and your site may be banned, your block of IPs at your host may be banned (making you a not so popular person on the block), and you’ll have your work cut out for you to “go legit” with your site. Getting caught spamming via e-mail can have more serious legal consequences now that the CAN-SPAM act has been passed. Read more about that here and refer to the actual legislation for more details. Also note that if you have specific questions about compliance with this law, you should consult with your lawyer. Home | Register | Host | Design | Upload | Promote © 2001-2005 MidcoastBusiness.com.
