1. Don’t repeat your keywords two or more times in a row on your pages or in your metatags.

Filling pages with keywords to make those pages seem more relevant to search engines is called keyword loading, spamdexing, or keyword stuffing. Search engines will penalize you for this if they think you are adding words simply to “trick” them. When you’re composing the body text of your page, incorporate your relevant keywords in as natural a writing style as possible. You rarely read web pages that say, “We sell widgets. Widgets, widgets, widgets. Come buy some widgets, widgets, widgets.” Having the words in the important place on your page (see our Do’s for hints) is all you should need. Remember that once the search engines have directed visitors to your site, you have to appeal to the most important “judges” of your content: your customers.

The same is true of your meta tags. Lists of keywords should not include the same term over and over again, and your description should include your keywords and text that would encourage your customers to click on your link over the other results in a search engine (since some engines will use this as your page’s description).
